Get the skills and confidence you need to operate an excavator safely and efficiently in real-world conditions. This course is perfect for new entrants building foundational skills or experienced operators looking to formalise their qualifications.
Through hands-on training with real machinery, you’ll learn how to handle a range of excavation tasks while developing safe work practices and practical know-how.

This course aligns with the nationally recognised unit RIIMPO320F – Conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations, covering planning and preparation, pre-start checks, machine operation, use of attachments, and basic maintenance.
Course Content
The course addresses the following:
- Planning and preparing for operations
- Pre- and post operational checks
- Shut down procedures
- Basic operating techniques
- Using the excavator to lift loads
- Use of rock breakers (Optional)
- Operator maintenance
Excavator Operator Assessment only service is also available for experienced operators for initial certificate issue and VoC’s
Assessment Method
Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration
Pre-requisites
Must have basic English literacy skills
If required by the employer or by the site management, or if required to drive the machine on a gazetted road, the candidate may require a Heavy Rigid (HR) Motor Vehicle Drivers License however this is not a requirement to attend the course.
Academic Award & Recognition
Upon successful completion participants will be issued with the following nationally recognised Statement of Attainment:

CTF Pricing For Eligible Customers
$404.00 - This subsidised rate is available to eligible companies under our bulk billing arrangement with the Construction Training Fund (CTF).
Individuals may still be eligible for the subsidy; however, they must submit their claims directly to CTF, as we are unable to claim on their behalf. For more information about the individual claim process, please contact the CTF directly.
CTF provides funding support to assist with the training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the CTF’s contribution in helping reduce training costs for eligible participants.

What To Wear
All course participants are required to wear long sleeve pants, a long sleeve shirt and steel cap boots.
Morning Tea & Lunch
Feel free to grab a tea, coffee or snack before the course starts and during the course breaks.
