Aim of this Course / Target Group

Stay compliant. Stay site-ready.
BHP requires workers to keep their high-risk skills current and verified. Our Crane, Dogging, and Rigging VOCs give contractors and employees the chance to demonstrate competency quickly and efficiently, ensuring you remain compliant with both BHP site standards and WHS legislation. Book in for one VOC or complete multiple on the same day – the choice is yours.

This course is designed for:

  • BHP contractors and employees who are required to hold a current VOC in Crane operations, Dogging, Rigging Basic, or Rigging Intermediate.
  • Workers needing to verify existing high-risk work licences as part of BHP site access or compliance requirements.
  • Experienced operators and riggers who wish to demonstrate ongoing competency and maintain compliance with workplace and regulatory obligations.

Course Content

The Verification of Competency (VOC) process is an assessment only (not a training course). It is designed to confirm participants’ current skills and knowledge in line with BHP and industry standards.

Depending on the unit(s) selected, the VOC may include:

  • Knowledge Assessment – short written or verbal questioning to confirm understanding of safe work practices, WHS obligations, and site requirements
  • Practical Assessment – observation of skills in performing dogging, rigging, or crane operations safely and effectively, using correct techniques, equipment, and communication methods
  • Compliance Check – confirmation that work is performed in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, and BHP site standards

Each assessment is tailored to the VOC being undertaken (Dogging, Rigging Basic, Rigging Intermediate, or Crane operations), and participants will only be assessed in the unit(s) they have nominated.

Assessment Method

  • Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration

Pre-requisites

To undertake a Verification of Competency (VOC), all participants must already hold the relevant current High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) or qualification for the activity being assessed.

Participants will be required to provide evidence of competency prior to assessment. Acceptable forms of evidence include:

  • A Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the relevant unit of competency
  • A USI Transcript showing the completed unit
  • A valid High Risk Work Licence (HRWL)

Without this evidence, participants will not be able to proceed with the VOC assessment.

Academic Award & Recognition

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with the relevant Verification of Competency for the specific unit(s) undertaken:

  • Licence to perform dogging
  • Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
  • Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity)
  • Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 20 tonnes)
  • Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes)

Course Fee

$250.00 per VOC. If you book multiple VOCs, our team will contact you after your booking to arrange payment for the additional assessments

Duration

The total duration for this Verification of Competency (VOC) program is approximately 3 hours when completing multiple assessments.

If participants are completing only one VOC, the assessment time will be shorter, depending on the specific unit being undertaken.

All course participants are required to wear long sleeve pants, a long sleeve shirt and steel cap boots.
