Aim of this Course / Target Group
Turn your excavator into more than just a digging machine - master the art of safe lifting on site!
This course is designed to give operators the skills and knowledge to safely plan, prepare, and conduct lifting operations using an excavator. The training focuses on understanding load charts, lifting techniques, and safety procedures so operators can carry out lifting tasks confidently, efficiently, and in line with workplace and legislative requirements. Participants will also learn how to identify hazards, implement risk controls, and work effectively with doggers and other site personnel to ensure safe lifting outcomes.
This course is ideal for experienced excavator operators who are required to perform lifting operations as part of their role. It is especially suited to those working in construction, civil, mining, and infrastructure projects where excavators are regularly used for lifting tasks.
Course Content
This course covers both theory and practical components to ensure operators can carry out lifting operations safely and effectively. Topics include:
- Planning and preparing for lifting operations
- Understanding load charts and lift capacity of excavators
- Selecting and using the correct lifting gear and equipment
- Attaching, lifting, moving, and placing loads safely
- Communication methods with doggers and spotters
- Hazard identification and risk control measures
- Compliance with site procedures, legislation, and Australian Standards
- Completing lift records and documentation
Assessment Method
Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration
Pre-requisites
- Must have basic English literacy skills
- Must hold a current DG HRWL
- Must hold an excavator ticket - RIIMPO320F or equivalent
Academic Award & Recognition
Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with the following Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment:
- SLELIC301 - Conduct safe lifting with excavators

CTF Pricing For Eligible Customers
$447 – This subsidised rate is available to eligible companies under our bulk billing arrangement with the Construction Training Fund (CTF).
Individuals may still be eligible for the subsidy; however, they must submit their claims directly to CTF, as we are unable to claim on their behalf. For more information about the individual claim process, please contact the CTF directly.
CTF provides funding support to assist with the training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the CTF’s contribution in helping reduce training costs for eligible participants.

What To Wear
All course participants are required to wear long sleeve pants, a long sleeve shirt and steel cap boots.
Morning Tea & Lunch
Feel free to grab a tea, coffee or snack before the course starts and during the course breaks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch as it is not provided. Vending machines are available at our West Swan site.
