Aim of this Course / Target Group
This course provides participants with the required skills and knowledge to enable the use of a quick cut saw in a safe and proficient manner in the workplace. Individuals will learn how to inspect, safely operate and carry out basic saw maintenance, including mixing fuels, air filter cleaning and blade change. The course is aligned to the of Code of Practise for Concrete and Masonry Cutting and Drilling which outlines the procedures that should be followed when using a quick cut saw and addresses the nationally recognised unit RIISAM204E Operate Small Plant and Equipment. This course is suitable for any individual.
The expected learning outcomes are that the trainee: -
1. Understands the regulations and safety requirements
related to the use of quick cut saws.
2. Prepares for use and maintains the saw to
prescribed standards.
3.
Use safe, efficient techniques.
Course Content
The course will address the following:
- Operator responsibilities
- Inspections before starting
- Starting the saw
- Operating the saw
- Free-hand cutting
- Reactive forces
- Dry and wet cutting
- Cutting slabs
- Cutting curves
- Cart mounted cutters
- Maintenance
Assessment Method
Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration
Pre-requisites
Must have basic English literacy skills
Academic Award & Recognition
Upon successful completion participants will be issued with the following Statement of Attainment which will be recognised nationally:
- RIISAM204E Operate Small Plant and Equipment
What To Wear
All course participants are required to wear appropriate work attire including steel capped boots, safety helmet, hearing protection and safety glasses. Specific quick cut saw protective clothing will be available for use during the training.

Feel free to grab a tea, coffee or a snack before the course starts and during any course break. Lunch is not provided on this course.
